Quick draw is a head-to-head bracketed game. It can be played by single elimination or double elimination depending on the number of throwers and time available. Everyone wishing to compete must be registered before the bracket begins. Once the bracket is started, no alterations can be made.
In order to compete, throwers will need 1 knife that is legal under general Blade Aces regulations and a sheath that is affixed to a belt, at the waist or lower. (Rules are in discussion as to exactly how much of the knife must be in the sheath, but in general the full amount of the “blade” of the knife or at least ½ the knife, if the blade is less than half the length of the knife, half the length of the knife needs to be in the sheath.)
2 throwers will be called up to face off (order is decided by the randomized bracket). The foul line is 3m. Starting position is the thumb of the throwing hand must be on the thrower’s collarbone. There are two ways for the match to be played depending on the equipment available.
1: The range master will ask both throwers if they are ready. “Set”. And then call “Go” at a random interval. The point goes to the first person to stick a knife in the 3 ring or better. If no one scores it counts as 0-0. There will be line judges on both sides, calling out the fastest time with a camera for slow motion verification if needed.
2: Electronic version. A light is used instead of someone calling Ready, Set, Go. The sensors on the target automatically show who won and the range master verifies that they are indeed within the 3 ring.
In case of equipment malfunction or throws so close that they cannot even be verified on camera, that throw will be considered void and will be rethrown.
Each match will go until there is a best of 3. Meaning whoever is in the lead after 3 throws is the winner and moves up in the bracket. If the throwers are tied after 3 throws, they continue to throw until someone makes a point.
The matches continue, working through the bracket until a winner is decided. Extra matches will be thrown to decide second and third place.
If you have an unusual sheath set up, please verify with Blade Aces, if it is considered legal. (If it is decided that it is an unfair advantage it will not be allowed.)
Thrower’s thumb must stay on their collarbone until Go is said or signaled.
